Explore the Bay of Somme
Ranked among the most beautiful bays in the world, the Bay of Somme is a must-see destination to explore from our campsite on the Opal Coast, very close to the ramparts of Montreuil-sur-Mer. Located less than an hour’s drive away, it offers a magnificent natural spectacle, shaped by the tides, dunes, and wildlife. Whether you’re a lover of wide-open spaces, an aspiring photographer, or simply a walker, the bay will amaze you with its changing light and extraordinary landscapes.
Note that bicycle and trailer transport is free, so you can enjoy the cycle paths once you arrive at your destination.
Take the steam train
For an original discovery of the Bay of Somme, board the Somme Bay railway, a authentic steam train that connects Le Crotoy to Cayeux-sur-Mer via Saint-Valery-sur-Somme. This picturesque journey is an immersion into the past, at the slow pace of old-time locomotives. Along the way, you can admire the wet meadows, salt marsh sheep, and fishermen’s huts. A fun and educational adventure, ideal for the whole family.
The breathtaking landscapes of the Bay of Somme
The Bay of Somme is above all a mosaic of unique landscapes: mudflats, dunes, marshes, pine forests, picturesque villas of Le Touquet-Paris-Plage… Every corner reveals an exceptional biodiversity. You can observe a large colony of common seals, such as the Seals of Authie Bay, as well as a multitude of migratory birds in the Marquenterre Ornithological Park. And if you wish to discover other marine species, visit Europe’s largest aquarium: Nausicaá. For walkers, many hiking trails allow you to fully immerse yourself in this natural setting. At low tide, the vast sandy expanses invite contemplation or the gathering of samphire. A moment suspended between land and sea.
